- S235JR: Steel with a basic yield strength (235 MPa for thicknesses ≤ 16 mm). It is characterized by excellent formability and superb weldability, making it the industry standard for lighter structural components and secondary structures.
- S275JR: An intermediate grade (yield strength of 275 MPa). It is typically selected by structural engineers when the parameters of the S235 grade are insufficient, but the project specification does not yet require the use of high-strength steels.
- S355J2: High-strength structural steel (yield strength of 355 MPa). The “J2” designation formally guarantees that the material maintains safe resistance to brittle fracture, with a minimum impact energy of 27 J at -20°C. It is the standard choice for heavily loaded load-bearing elements operating under variable weather conditions.
ASTM A572/A572M Standard – Executing Projects for International Markets
For investments implemented outside Europe or according to American specifications, it is necessary to use high-strength, low-alloy columbium-vanadium structural steels (HSLA). At WOST S.A., we roll profiles in internationally recognized grades, such as Grade 42 and Grade 50.
ASTM A572 Grade 50 is of key export importance, featuring a minimum yield strength of 50 ksi (approximately 345 MPa). It serves as a functional equivalent of the European S355 class. The availability of these products in our offer makes it easier for general contractors to execute global contracts without the need for costly and time-consuming recalculation of project documentation into alternative standard systems.
Basic Mechanical Parameters (European Standards)

Application Areas of WOST S.A. Structural Profiles
Depending on the static and structural strength requirements, the hot-rolled profiles from our portfolio find applications in specific branches of structural engineering:
- Commercial and Industrial Buildings (industrial halls, warehouses): Grades S235JR and S275JR are widely used for the manufacturing of complementary elements such as roof purlins, wall girts, or bracings, where the low dead weight of the components is essential. High-strength profiles – S355J2 or ASTM Grade 50, including large-scale equal angles and unequal angles, are utilized as material for the main load-bearing columns and chords of long-span roof trusses.
- Lattice Infrastructure (masts, power towers): These structures are exposed to strong wind loads and the risk of icing at low temperatures. Structural steel elements with proven winter impact toughness (J2 class) are standardly used for their construction. The structural stability of support systems is guaranteed, among others, by dimensionally stable T-profiles (tees).
- Machinery Structures and Cranes: Components of heavy machinery frames, support structures for technological equipment, or crane runways operate under constant dynamic loads. For their prefabrication, structural engineers recommend products compliant with ASTM A572 and EN 10025-2 standards, including rigid and torsion-resistant UPN channels.

All products leaving Walcownie Ostrowieckie are subject to full heat traceability. We deliver steel exclusively with 3.1 inspection certificates according to the EN 10204 standard, which guarantees full compliance of chemical and mechanical parameters with commercial declarations. Production is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the European Construction Products Regulation (CPR) No. 305/2011, and the products possess verified Declarations of Performance (DoP), ensuring complete legal and technical safety during construction handovers.
